An introductory chapter

October 10th

“It was rainy. It was rainy again. The October had just begun, but it was rainy during a week without stopping. All things I wanted were to wrap myself up in the bathrobe, drink hot tea with lemon and watch serials. And I did it. And do not forget a biscuit and a cup of hot chocolate!

After the 6th episode of TV series, when there was not a pack of chocolate in my house, I fell asleep. Yes, I fell asleep with the TV on. But I worked hard before that. I had a lot of work during a week, and I did it all some hours ago. Suddenly there was a harrowing cry. I woke up instantly. Rain was knocking on the window so loudly that I was surprised how I could hear something. Then I waited a little bit and decided that I dreamed that cry. But a few minutes later, it repeated again. It was such a heart-rending cry, that I was frightened. There was so much pain and misery! I immediately ran out of the house under the rain. I searched for a long time, searched for the man or woman who screamed. I was completely drenched but I found nobody.

October 11th

The next morning I woke up with a strange feeling of fear. I couldn’t understand why. But it was sunny and I cheered up a bit.

March 20th

A strange feeling of fear didn’t leave me….

March 21st

-Good morning, dear! Can you come to my office now? I wanted to tell you something…

-Yes, I will come. Give me a minute. - And I went…

-You know, we live in difficult times now. And there are too many staff in our company… Sorry, but I must fire you…..

Then I couldn’t hear him… I was fired. Without any reason…

I was very upset when I packed up things, and said goodbye to all. Then I grimly went home. I thought: “Why? After all years, after my hard work… I was never late for work, and they fired me”. When I was thinking about these sad things I didn’t see the car drove from the corner. I just felt a sharp pain in the back. I fell on the asphalt. Then I didn’t remember anything…

(Some time later)

-…The pupil reacts. The heart rates are stable. I think we did it! .....”

Chapter 1

“28.10.2214

Oh, no! I stayed too long again! It’s 5 o’clock a.m. And I am going out of the library just now. It’s not rainy and it’s excellent. Because I didn’t take the umbrella. Certainly I can’t visit my darling. The laboratory is closed now. Although…. I think nobody will care if I quietly come into the scientific lab at 5 a.m. The main thing is that I must not be seen… I cannot sleep at home. And I sleep in my lab with her. I am very worried that the machine will break down when I'm not around. Without the capsule she can die within an hour. And nothing could help her…

So I came. I don’t think anyone saw me. Nothing has changed since the morning. Although, What did I hope for? Of course nothing changed! Because no one can come in my lab. I have forbidden it. However, I have not explained a reason. Now they think I'm a little crazy. I do not care. But can you imagine? No one even can guess that there is a dying girl in a capsule! My beloved... the only person who can save her is me. All other people do not even know that she is still alive. If you can call it "alive" … She will not survive without me. I am trying to perform the surgery every way, but I have no information about... the result of the experiment in 2000. That Experiment in the Revival of Organisms…”

Chapter 2

“29.10.2214

Now is morning. I need to work. But I do not need to go far. I slept at my work place. Yes, I work as a scientist in the laboratory. So, I have to check equipment, check Jane’s capsule, buy food and start to work. First work and then search for the information to resurrect Jane. Oh yeah! I have to feed my dog at home. Always forget to do it. I almost never come home. It’s very rare. Because of this, Cherter (the name of our dog) is angry with me…

When the work is done, I can search for information about the Experiment. This is the last chance to find anything. After all, I’ve already searched everything ... So...

“…Very slowly, her head began to wake up. Eyelids started blinking. Her eyes slowly opened and began to look around intelligently. Then, when the bright lamp was brought to the eyes, she shut them. And at the sound of her name she turned towards the voice. Thus it was proven that the brain could work after death…”

It’s so clear. I have already read this. And this… And this… But… Wait a minute! What is it? This I haven’t seen!

"Even 2 years later she never learned adequate behavior. She doesn’t know if somebody is a friend or not. She rushes to all people without distinction. She wants to kill everybody. She doesn’t understand human speech. But even if she understands it, she doesn’t show it. Doesn’t remember anything from her past. Not subject to feelings and emotions. Oh, my God! We have created a killing machine!”

Oh my God! I did not know that... Perhaps the human mind crashes... I think I stumbled upon a difficult obstacle. I'm not sure if I can overcome it. It was my last chance…

Another three hours spent in front of computer. And what did I find!

“It’s very strange. But it seems she is becoming less violent. She is getting more peaceful! Perhaps medication is helping her. However, in our experiment, when we took her outside, she tried to bite me. “

Oh! Can she have a sound mind? Is her psyche restored? I am elated again! I believe that everything will turn out well! I shall heal Jane, and we will be happy again! YES!”

Chapter 3

Day 1

“I don’t know the date… I continue to write my diary. I don’t know why. These idiots don’t know that I can understand them. Their "inject the tranquilizer!" or "she is inadequate" angered me even more. Idiots. I hate them. Why have they revived me? All these experiments... I will destroy them all! No one will survive!

Day 5

They took me outside. I tried to bite one of them. He was clever and ducked away. Don’t be afraid of me, dear! I'll still get you. It would be necessary to play the role of a calm and peaceful girl. When they calm down, it will be a riot!

Day 9

I have a friend! Yes, I do. I was surprised. He is beautiful and clever, and most importantly, we think the same way! His name is Peter. But he always stands aside. Even when I call him. I can’t understand… Is he a doctor? Why no one else sees him?”

Chapter 4

I miss Jane. I lack communication with people. After the incident I almost didn’t talk to people. I don’t see the reason to talk to anybody. People don’t have the time to listen to my whining. They don’t want to know a man, who is able to work for the life of his girlfriend only.

I love Jane very much. I have no reason to do anything other than find a cure. I can’t sleep at night. Sometimes I try to create the cure for days, without a break. Sometimes I just sit and look at her through a transparent capsule. She's so beautiful. I love her – despite such a huge wound and a dead mind. I love her more than life. If she dies, I will not be able to live. I see no reason to live without her. She is my life...

But today I found the cure! YES! I did it! There is only one element that I haven’t found. It will take a few days. I will test it on rats. If all goes well, I will cure Jane!

I need to go home and pick up the necessary books. And also sell the dog. I decided to sell it. I hope it will forgive my betrayal…”

Today I had a dream. It was a very dark and frightening dream. I saw a young girl. The girl was dressed in filthy rags; her hair was disheveled. It was clear that she had not done it for a long time. And it seems, she never thought that it looked so awful. Her hands were scratched. She had bruises on her feet. She looked very tired and she had black eyes. But the most terrible in her appearance was a scar. It was huge! Scar began at the neck and ended somewhere near the navel. She showed me a book. But I had not seen this book before. She screamed "Noooooooo!" loudly. She cried and again showed the book. I do not know, maybe it means something?”

Chapter 5

I still have the dreams about this girl. Every night she's getting worse. I'm afraid.”

I decided to clean up the house! Ha-ha! Joke! I lost the book. Such a bad timing, especially when I'm on the verge of discovery! My work is almost done! Just a bit is left. But I'm starting to worry about the state of Jane. She is getting worse. If in the near future I don't create the cure, I'm afraid she will die…

Oh, my God! I hate cleaning! So many things! And everything has to be sorted. Wait a minute... I do not remember this book... what is it? So...

I can’t write here every day but I want it. These idiots must find out that I have the diary. Then they will be studying my mind and a diary… I think I'm playing the role perfectly! These idiots are relaxed! Well that's all. It’s time to riot!

Day 11

I rebelled. That was easy. Even too easy. All of them are too weak and naive. But that's not important. Why talk about them? All of them are already dead.

But I suddenly thought that everyone is the same. They can also put me in the loony bin. ALL OF THEM! I hate humanity! People always consider themselves so important in this world. They poke their long noses into things they don’t need to know! I will destroy them all! Everyb….”

Oh my God! So this is a diary of the girl that had an operation in 2000. And all the time it was near me? The mind has not been recovered. On the contrary, it will become worse and worse. Is Jane going crazy because of the treatment? But how can I save her?”

Christmas is coming. I'm going mad… I can’t live without Jane. And she will die. Should I help her? What would I do if she starts to kill? Would I love her if she destroyed the whole cities? But she would kill me too…

I heard a scream. It is so piercing! A person is very afraid. This shout is like that cry from the diary. I have a feeling, that this is how people scream before their death…”

I think I’m crazy. I'm still trying to write down my thoughts in the diary, but it does not help. I can’t understand myself. I don’t understand what I want. I want to cure Jane, I love her. I can’t live without her. But if she gets healthy, she will become abnormal and dangerous. She will kill people and she will never stop. She'll kill me. Or she will not. Maybe nothing will happen with her psyche. Maybe I can cure her without damage to the psyche. But what things will happen if I don’t? I must think about other people’s lives. They will die if I cure Jane. Oh my God! I can’t make the right decision! My mind tells me one thing and my heart cries another….

You know, I started having nightmares. The girl with the book kept coming to my dreams. But I also began to see ghosts, some evil, nasty insects that could eat you alive. There was a feeling of d?j? vu. One night I had a dream about a hundred murders and more. Those were the murders of me and other ordinary people. The most horrible, brutal killings. All this was happening right in front of me. It’s terrible! I am scared……”

Chapter 6

-We have to hide the murders. People must not to know about this horror.

-But the two cities became extinct. Not a single person is alive. The cities are nothing but mountains of dead bodies. How are we supposed to hide it?

-It's your problem. You must hide it. It's your job.

-All right. We can declare that there was an epidemic… But…I understand that I must not know about it, but tell me please: do you know who is doing it? Who’s destroyed the two cities in two weeks?

-I don’t know....

“-And we continue the news. In this area, the epidemic is detected. Some people died. Many people are in the hospital. But do not worry. The scientists have already developed a cure. Now let’s move on to other news...”

There is a heartbeat. And that’s one more time. And… Here it is. It is the final blow to the heart of the beautiful girl in a capsule that supported her life as long as it could. Time is over. The capsule can’t help her. She lay for too long without moving. Her time is up…

A man entered the room. He was broken. But the moment he saw the machine was not working, he was so scary, that if people saw the ghost a meter away from him, they wouldn’t be so afraid of it as of that man.
